MediaTech to handle video chores at new arena
LOVELAND –MediaTech Productions has landed the media services contract for the new Budweiser Events Center at the Larimer County Fairgrounds, a deal that will double the size of the nine-year-old Fort Collins firm.
Global Spectrum, the company that manages the events center, said it’s still sorting out details of the contract and declined to estimate the financial value of the deal.
MediaTech currently has seven employees. Company president Maury Dobbie plans to hire at least that many to people to fulfill the Global Spectrum contract.

The contract calls for MediaTech’s staff to run the arena’s video cameras and scoreboard operations. The 195-square-foot, 10,000-pound scoreboard will feature live video coverage of the event, replays, crowd shots and promotional segments.
MediaTech will also produce any pregame video that runs on the scoreboard.
The MediaTech contract takes effect when the arena opens on Sept. 20 for the Colorado Avalanche-Florida Panthers exhibition hockey game,
“We sent RFPs (requests for proposals) to a number of companies — MediaTech came back with some solid qualifications,´ said Rick Hontz, assistant general manager of the events center. “We were impressed with the past work they’d done. It’s great to find a company that’s qualified to run our system and that’s local.”
The live video scoreboard is unusual for smaller arenas like the Budweiser Events Center, which seats about 5,300 fans for hockey, 6,000 for basketball and 7,200 for concerts.
“For fans accustomed to arenas of this size, it (the video capabilities) will be a pleasant surprise for them,” Hontz said.
Dobbie thinks the events center contract will raise the profile of her firm, which specializes in Web, video and audio production. MediaTech’s video production resume includes production of television programs, animation and training videos.
“Peripherally, because of this contract, we will move up pretty substantially in the minds of our usual clients,” Dobbie said. “We’re starting to see a turnaround. We’re starting to slowly see people cutting loose with marketing dollars for the things we do.”
