Packaging Corporation adds contracts, expands plant

WINDSOR – Packaging Corporation of America has announced completion of a $5 million capital expansion in Windsor.

The addition of new equipment, completed in June, was made necessary by a string of new contracts for the box-making company.

Packaging Corporation has landed supplier deals with manufacturers such as Motorola, New Balance shoes, Hallmark and Nokia, said Bob Smallwood, the company’s general manager.

“We’ve grown our business with Motorola,” Smallwood said. “We are manufacturing about 80 percent of Motorola’s cell phone boxes.”

The Hallmark job consists of decorative mailing boxes which Hallmark sells to the U.S. Postal Service.

The additional contracts spurred Packaging Corporation to add 20 new jobs earlier this year, growing the company’s total staff size to 124. Revenue growth is expected to reach 14 percent this year due to the additional contracts, Smallwood said.
