United Way boards agree to merger

Board members for two United Way organizations in Larimer County have

agreed to merge the two groups into a single United Way of Larimer

County. The new organization is set to take effect on July 1.

The Fort Collins Area United Way’s Board of Directors approved the

merger on Wednesday night. Directors of the United Way of

Loveland-Berthoud-Estes Park had previously given the go-ahead on

Monday.

The two agencies have investigated the merger for two years, and

actually blended their 2002 fund-raising campaigns. The joint

campaign raised $4.14 million.

As planned, there will not be any layoffs for the staffs of either

agency. Gordon Thibedeau, currently executive director of the Fort

Collins United Way, will assume the top position in the merged

agency. Bob Hix, executive director of the Loveland-Berthoud-Estes

Park United Way, will be director of funds development for the new

organization.

Jerry Westbrook, the incoming board president for the Loveland

agency, will be president of the new agency. Mark Goldrich, who was

scheduled to be the president of the Fort Collins agency, will be the

agency president in 2004.
