Spa offers herbal face-lift, rejuvenation treatments

BOULDER — The word ayurveda, when translated, means total knowledge. It is the most ancient system of holistic medicine derived from India.

Helena Meyer, owner of Boulder-based Helena Meyer Ayurvedic Spa, specializes in rejuvenating the body.

Meyer comes from a line of Austrian herbalists. She also studied biology and aromatherapy at the Ayurvedic Science Institute in Europe where Deepak Chopra also studied.

?Aging is only caused by toxins,? Meyer said. She said toxins come from emotions, the environment, what we eat and what we put on our faces, such as cosmetics. Toxins cause free radicals to be produced, which cause aging in the body and skin.

?I specialize in removing free radicals from the body inside and outside,? said Meyer. Internal detoxification is done through a procedure called mar ma therapy, also known as the ayurvedic name for energy centers.

There are about 2,000 energy centers in our body, Meyer said. The toxins are released by using essential oils and specific manipulations of the energy centers in the body. Oftentimes detoxifying releases toxins into the body that may make a person feel sick. This is not the case with Meyer’s method.

?The toxins get removed from the body in a very natural, simple, safe way,? she said.

For outer detoxification Meyer has developed a program called the anti-aging treatment. This is a skin-care treatment that removes free radicals from the skin using vitamins and organic, natural herbs to remove toxins.

If a cell has to many toxins, it will suffocate. Once the toxins are removed, natural food from the body and oxygen enters the cell allowing it to rejuvenate and become firm and youthful looking. Weight loss also may occur after detoxification of the cells because the excess fluid and fat is released from around the cell.

Meyer uses only organic ingredients in her cosmetics, skin and body care. The herbal face-lift contains more than 68 herbs. ?It has the effect of a face-lift. It lifts the skin and makes it firmer and more alive and radiant,? said Meyer.

Arleen Miller has had Meyer’s herbal face-lift. ?It was great. After the first two treatments people said I look 10 years younger. I had a lot of deep wrinkles, and none of them are deep anymore,? said Miller.

Meyer offers rejuvenation treatments for the hands, feet, back, hair, eyes and neck as well as the face.

The anti-aging treatment cost $75. The herbal face-lift cost $85. A general facial is $65. The mar ma treatment is $75. The hand and feet treatment is $65. If a person gets both a facial and a hand and foot rejuvenation treatment the later becomes $35.

When buying a series, customers receive a 10 percent discount. The spa also carries a full line of skin body care and aroma therapy, which are organically hand crafted. Meyer offers Boulder clients a free holistic beauty consolation that normally costs $125.

The consultation informs people where the toxins are and determines how often they should come for treatment. On average, most clients use the services once a month.

?People hug me and send flowers because of the results of the treatments. People are not happy these days because there is a lot of strain to pull through life with all of these demands,? Meyer said. ?People come, and they look better, and they feel better about themselves. They feel better emotionally. I am giving people happiness and better looks, and I love doing what I do. It makes me feel awesome.?

Meyer also offers classes at the spa on well-being, happiness, emotions and growth in consciousness. Tuesday classes are for both men and women at 8 p.m., and Wednesday classes are for women only at 7:30 p.m. Each class is open to the public and cost is $10 per class.
