Be like the Pratts: Hire coaches
The Eye, being gainfully employed scanning the Northern Colorado horizon for quirky little news tidbits, doesn’t spend much time with the help wanted ads.
But an ad running in the region’s newspapers, and posted all over the Web, drew some attention.
The McWhinney brothers, developers of the Global Technology Center, Rocky Mountain Village, the Prime Outlet mall and most everything else in sight of the junction of U.S. 34 and Interstate 25, have a help wanted sign out.

Chad McWhinney, the elder of the two, wants to shed the “president” half of his title (the other half is CEO), and bring on someone to put that label together with COO — chief operating officer. Troy McWhinney, the younger, will retain his vice president for development title.
McWhinney Enterprises has a smaller staff than some of its Northern Colorado counterparts, namely the Everitt Companies of Fort Collins and Pratt Property Management LLC of Longmont.
But as they beef up with management, here’s a tip: Dump the titles.
Pratt offers an option, one that Pratt Real Estate Coach (yes, that’s the title) Marty McElwain said is working well for Pratt workers at all levels.
Joining owner Susan Pratt on the five-member leadership team are McElwain, Hospitality Coach Phil Marti, Finance Coach Rick Gonzales, and Design-Build Coach Don Hostetter.
“There are lots of analogies for how we run this business, and one is the professional sports team,” McElwain said.
