Hacker, Engle promoted in newspaper expansion

The Northern Colorado Business Report has announced two promotions.

Tom Hacker, a veteran Northern Colorado journalist, has been promoted to managing editor of the newspaper.

Jennifer Engle, who joined The Business Report’s magazine-sales division in September, has been named magazine manager.

Hacker has worked for the business newspaper as a staff writer since June 1999. As managing editor, he will oversee the publication’s news, feature and departmental content. He will continue to write articles for the newspaper.

He assumed the news-editing duties from Business Report cofounder Christopher Wood, who is devoting more time to publishing duties.

Jeff Nuttall, Business Report co-publisher, said Hacker was promoted because of his strong news contributions since his arrival on-staff last year.

“Tom has been a tremendous asset to this newspaper,” Nuttall said. “He is without a doubt the most aggressive business-news reporter in Northern Colorado and is one of the most respected journalists, period, in the region.”

Engle will lead The Northern Colorado Business Report’s sales efforts for a number of magazine projects, including the Greeley/Weld Chamber of Commerce Directory, the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce Directory, the Loveland Chamber of Commerce Directory, the Better Business Bureau of the Mountain States Directory, the Northern Front Range Technology/Manufacturers Directory and others.

Co-publisher Wood said that Engle is the perfect person to assume management of the magazine division.

“Jennifer has already made a huge impact in organizing that department and in streamlining its operations,” Wood said. “She has developed a sales strategy that will enable our magazine products to enjoy continued, rapid growth.”

The Business Report has expanded rapidly in recent months, with recent and imminent hirings taking total staff to 21.
