Silver Star acquires customers as Sir Speedy Printing closes

BOULDER — Silver Star Printing at 2810 29th St. in Boulder recently acquired the customer base, including client’s artwork, negatives, plates and electronic files, of Sir Speedy Printing, which went out of business in January.

A close competitor for years, Sir Speedy, previously at 2430 30th St. in Boulder, had enlisted the help of Silver Star in the past to assist with some larger printing jobs that their facility couldn’t handle.

With a good working relationship established, Sir Speedy — not to be confused with Boulder’s Speedy Bee Printing — decided to relocate their customers to Silver Star’s existing facility.

Bob Roberts, marketing director for Silver Star, would not elaborate on terms of the agreement. “It helped round out our customer base,” he said. “We had been printing for them for quite some time anyway, and their customers fit our customer profiles.” The deal also “really bolstered our small press department,” he added.

The acquisition process took about two weeks, according to Roberts.

“The really nice thing for us,” notes Roberts, “is that there were some customers there that we wanted. It rounded out our print shop and helped us make some changes that we needed to make to round our production out to small and large format. Now we can print a job anywhere from a small business card package all the way up to a 28 inch by 40 inch four-color job.”
