Markleys enter fourth generation of prosperity

Markley Motors is opening a new Saturn dealership in Cheyenne and moving its Saturn operation in Fort Collins into a larger space as business continues to grow for the 63-year-old family-operated company.

“There are always unique challenges when you pass the business along from one generation to the next,´ said Doug Markley, president and CEO of the company. “But if you have a good working relationship with family members, it works out very well. We’ve been very fortunate.”

Because Markley Motors is such a large operation, it has provided numerous challenges for family members over the years, he said.

Christopher Wood is editor and publisher of BizWest, a regional business journal covering Boulder, Broomfield, Larimer and Weld counties. Wood co-founded the Northern Colorado Business Report in 1995 and served as publisher of the Boulder County Business Report until the two publications were merged to form BizWest in 2014. From 1990 to 1995, Wood served as reporter and managing editor of the Denver Business Journal. He is a Marine Corps veteran and a graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder.
