Spirit to add nonstop Denver-Detroit flights

DENVER – Travelers between the Front Range and the Motor City will have another option beginning early next year. Spirit Airlines Inc. will add nonstop evening service connecting Denver International Airport and Detroit Metropolitan Airport beginning Feb. 14.

The service initially will operate daily except Tuesdays and Wednesdays, then increase to daily service on March 1, the Miramar, Florida-based airline (Nasdaq: SAVE) said in a press statement. Spirit initially will offer one flight each way each day, with Flight 975 leaving Detroit at 5:56 p.m. Eastern time (3:56 p.m. in Colorado) and arriving in Denver at 7:06 p.m. That aircraft will return to Detroit as Flight 976, leaving DIA at 7:46 p.m. and arriving in Detroit at 12:26 a.m. (10:26 p.m. Mountain time).

“We are pleased to see Spirit add service to Detroit,´ said Kim Day, manager of aviation at DIA. “These new flights will stimulate the local market and provide an additional option for our passengers.”

Spirit started service at DIA in May and offers daily nonstop daily service to O’Hare International Airport in Chicago and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as well as to Dallas/Fort Worth, Las Vegas and Phoenix.
