HiViz to relocate following gun legislation

FORT COLLINS – HiViz Shooting Systems will leave Colorado following gun control legislation passed by the state government last month.

The Fort Collins-based manufacturer of sights, recoil pads and other shooting accessories announced on its website that it is in talks with officials of a neighboring state regarding the move.

“I make this announcement with mixed emotions,´ said Phillip Howe, president and CEO of HiViz.  Colorado is a beautiful state with great people, but we cannot in clear conscience support with our taxes a state that has proven through recent legislation a willingness to infringe upon the constitutional rights of our customer base.”

As Mental Health Awareness Month unfolds in Colorado, it serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to prioritize mental well-being.

The release also states that the majority of its employees will make the move with the company. More details of the relocation will be announced as they are finalized.

A representative from the company confirmed the details of the release but deferred to a marketing director for other questions.

Phone calls to the marketing director were not immediately returned.

The release did not state how many people HiViz employs.

The announcement follows a decision by Erie-based Magpul, which produces high-capacity magazines, to move outside of Colorado in March, also because of gun-control laws.

The Colorado legislature last month passed legislation limiting magazine size to 15 rounds, requiring universal background checks on gun sales and charges buyers for the cost of the checks.
