Open Door Brewing gets ready to open tap room in Prospect New Town

LONGMONT — Open Door Brewing Co. is almost ready to open a tap room in Prospect New Town at the southern edge of Longmont.

Owners and cousins Andy Riedel and Billy McDivitt expect to have a soft opening in about 10 days and hold a grand-opening celebration March 24.

The 1,500-square-foot tap room is being constructed at 2030 Ionosphere St., a space the company is leasing. With the building being new construction, the brewers have been able to tailor the space to their needs. It will seat about 175, with about 50 of those on a rooftop patio and another 12 in an outdoor garden on the ground floor. McDivitt said the roof-top patio provides unobstructed views of the Flatirons in Boulder and Longs Peak and Mount Meeker to the west.

The tap room will have about 12 taps, featuring Open Door’s three main brews — Short Arm, Over the Moon and Libertas — along with seasonal brews and others from local brewers. McDivitt said eventually it will add ciders, wines and mead to the lineup.

Open Door will sell snacks, but with Prospect New Town having several restaurants, McDivitt said food from the outside can be brought in, and he plans to work deals with food trucks as another option.

Open Door brews its beer in Denver at contract brewery Sleeping Giant Brewing Co. McDivitt said the tap room has been designed to handle brewing tanks, but he said it probably will be a year before they start brewing onsite.

Open Door was founded in 2014 and began brewing beer in 2015, producing about 160 barrels in 2016.  It sells the beer to about 60 liquor stores and restaurants in Longmont, Boulder, Superior, Erie, Lafayette, Louisville and the Denver metro area.
