Debut of electric-vehicle charging station

FORT COLLINS — A “Drive Electric Northern Colorado” event next week will debut the state’s first “fast charger” for electric vehicles.

The Electrification Coalition has formed a partnership with the cities of Fort Collins and Loveland and CSU. During an event at the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery on Feb. 25, the partnership will announce an initiative to establish an “electric vehicle deployment community.”

Deployment communities are eligible for temporary incentives designed to ensure that each of the elements of an electrified transportation system are deployed, providing a first step toward moving electrification to more people.

In preparation for Republic Services becoming the primary provider of residential recycling, yard trimmings, and trash, residents should now select the best cart size and service schedule for their household needs.

These communities are expected to move the concept beyond early adopters and drive economies of scale in vehicle manufacturing, according to The Electrification Coalition’s website.

The launch will be held at 9 a.m. next Monday and will include electric-vehicle demonstrations and testimonials from local businesses and electric-vehicle owners.
