CU falls, CSU rises in U.S. News’ best public school rankings

University of Colorado-Boulder fell two spots to rank No. 38 and Colorado State University gained two spots to rank No. 58 among the nations’ top public schools, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2015 Best Colleges.

CU-Boulder tied Colorado School of Mines for the No. 38 spot of top public schools, according to the rankings released Tuesday. CSU ranked No. 58 in the top public schools for 2015. The news magazine published a total of 117 public school rankings.

In the national university rankings, which include public and private schools, CU-Boulder ranked No. 88 while CSU ranked No. 121 of a total of 201 rankings.

U.S. News noted that CU-Boulder was the only school in the Rocky Mountain region to be a part of the American Association of Universities, a group of 62 leading research universities. CU also has highly ranked graduate programs in engineering and education.

U.S. News considers CSU one of the leading research universities, with faculty and students working together to explore fields such as atmospheric science, infectious diseases, clean energy technologies and environmental science.

Last year, U.S. News ranked CU-Boulder No. 36 among public universities and No. 86 among all public and private universities. CSU ranked No. 60 among public universities and No. 121 among public and private universities last year.
