Colorado community health centers receive $4.7M

U.S. Health and Human Services said it has awarded $4.7 million in Affordable Care Act funding to 16 community health centers in Colorado to expand primary care services, including at clinics in Northern Colorado and the Boulder Valley.

The funding will allow the facilities to hire an estimated 86 new staff, stay open for longer hours and expand their services. The following facilities in Northern Colorado and the Boulder Valley received funding:

Mountain Family Health Centers, Nederland: $237,322

Sunrise Community Health, Evans: $304,468

These investments will help health centers reach an estimated 26,300 new patients in Colorado. Nationally, $295 million was awarded to 1,195 health centers in every U.S. state, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories.

“These funds will enable health centers to provide high-quality primary health care to more people, including the newly insured, many of whom may be accessing primary care for the first time in Colorado,” health secretary Sylvia Burwell said in a statement.

Health centers provide care and help people attain insurance coverage. Health centers provided enrollment aid to more than 6 million people over the last year.

In Colorado, 17 health centers serve nearly 500,000 patients. Nationwide, nearly 1,300 health centers operate more 9,200 service delivery sites to care for more than 21.7 million patients.
