ConocoPhillips presents to city council

LOUISVILLE – ConocoPhillips Co. presented its preliminary site plans to the Louisville City Council Tuesday night.

The Houston-based energy company (NYSE: COP) told council members and local residents that it plans to use less than half of the 432-acre site to build – though the company hasn’t announced building details.

The presentation also included the company’s findings from the site analysis, which included facets like soil, water, climate, noise and topography studies.

“It was great for (Conoco) to have the opportunity to present (the plan) widely to the community,´ said Louisville City Manager Malcolm Fleming. “I think it was an inspiring presentation.”

Conoco bought the land, which was previously the Sun Microsystems Inc./Storage Technology Corp. campus, for $58.5 million in early 2008. It has since purchased another roughly 19 acres for about $3 million.

The company plans to start construction in late 2010 or early 2011 and occupy the site as early as 2013. At full build out, the company said it plans to employ up to 7,000 workers – many of which will be hired locally.
