Albuquerque Isotopes pitching coach to lead NoCo Owlz

WINDSOR — The Northern Colorado Owlz has hired Frank Gonzales, former pitching coach for the Colorado Rockies Triple-A affiliate Albuquerque Isotopes, as its new manager.

Gonzales is a Colorado State University graduate who previously managed baseball squads at Fort Collins High School and with the Grand Junction Rockies and Boise Hawks.

“Having a local legend like Coach Gonzales on board can bring Owlz baseball back to the dynasty that it was,” Owlz owner Jeff Katofsky said in a prepared statement. “Not only that, but to have him coaching and training children of all ages in our youth programs and tournaments will continue to raise the bar at Future Legends.”

Gonzales was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 1989 after graduating from CSU. He played for several Tigers affiliates and in China.

“Knowing the baseball and the community of baseball in Northern Colorado was very inviting,” Gonzales said in a statement. “I’m excited about the community opportunity.”
