Legal betting rises in November from month and year prior

LAKEWOOD — Legal wagering increased by nearly 5% in the state in November over numbers recorded in October, and was 16.2% above November of a year ago.

The wagering numbers were released this week by the Colorado Division of Gaming. Total handle for November 2022 was $552,603,013, up 4.9% from the total handle of the prior month, October 2022, which recorded wagering of $526,619,777. Total amount bet on sports in November 2021 was $475,441,229. 

Taxes collected by the state in November 2022 from sports betting wagers totaled $2,581,533, representing a 10.8% increase over the prior month of $2,330,705. The monthly November 2022 tax total represents a 30.4% increase from the taxes collected in November 2021 of $1,979,134.

Fiscal year taxes to date for November are $10,816,035, a 98.95% increase from the fiscal year taxes to date for November 2021 of $5,436,615.

Basketball took the top spot for November with $142,186,630 in total wagers, followed by Pro American Football with $135,263,417 in bets. Wagers on NCAA Football placed third with $48,051,338.
