Fort Collins seeks artists for Pianos About Town

FORT COLLINS — Artists are being sought for the 2023 Pianos About Town program in downtown Fort Collins.

The artists, as in the past, would paint or decorate pianos that are placed in outside locations around town for people to use.

According to a press statement, “the program is looking for diversity in artwork styles and concepts, with a preference for emerging artists and new and exciting ideas. Selected artists will receive an honorarium of $1,000.”

In Colorado, 1 in 3 women, 1 in 3 men and 1 in 2 transgender individuals will experience an attempted or completed sexual assault in their lifetime. During April, we recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month with the hopes of increasing conversations about this very important issue.

Artists must submit a letter of intent and concept rendering. The 2023 application deadline is 4 p.m. Feb. 28. A city of Fort Collins Art in Public Places committee selects artists each year. The website to apply is fcgov.com/art-calls.

Applicants can learn more by attending virtual information sessions, one Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. and one-on-one meetings with artists Feb. 22 from 2 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.

Pianos for the program come from community donations. Pianos are picked up free of charge and brought to a storage area where they are cleaned, tuned, prepped for painting and readied for the outside elements.
