KidsPak to celebrate distribution of millionth meal

LOVELAND — KidsPak, the organization that provides meals to youth in the Thompson School District, will celebrate the distribution of its millionth meal with a special event Friday at the Forge campus in Loveland.

KidsPak started under the Loveland Rotary Foundation in 2009 and served 34 students at three schools in the district the last two months of the 2009 school year, according to a press statement from the organization. It has continued to pack bags containing meals and distribute them to children at 40 school sites in the Thompson district. The meals are for children who might not have access to food outside of school hours when lunch programs are available.

KidsPak, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, works from a space in Building D at the Forge, which is the former Hewlett-Packard Co. facility in south Loveland.

Thompson School District has nearly 5,000 families on free or reduced meal programs and more than 800 students who would qualify as homeless.

Tonight’s event will be from 5-7 p.m. in Building D, with an entrance on the east side. The Forge is located at 815 14th St. SW.

Speaking at the event will be U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse, Loveland mayor Jacki Marsh, Larimer County Commissioner Jody Shadduck McNally and Claire Bouchard from the Community Foundation of Northern Colorado.

Awards will be presented to Beef Sticks.org and the CSU Animal Science Department for their contributions to the program.
