Environmental group sues state over mine pollution permit

Environmental group WildEarth Guardians is suing the administration of Gov. Jared Polis, accusing it of missing a deadline for an air-pollution permit for a coal mine near Paonia.

The Colorado Sun reports that the environmental group sued over the West Elk Mine, a major source of volatile organic compounds. The case was filed in Gunnison County District Court. WildEarth Guardians says the state missed a September 2021 deadline to approve or deny a permit.
