Boulder creative agency Vermilion sells to internal leadership team

BOULDER — Longtime Boulder creative agency Vermilion has entered a new phase with 42-year owner Bob Morehouse passing the reins to an internal leadership team. The Boulder-based public benefit corporation will move into the hands of Susan Touchette Aust, Thaddeus Napp and Sarah Halle, all of whom hold long tenures at Vermilion.

Aust has spent almost 20 years as Vermilion’s account director and will be taking on the role of partner and CEO. Napp will continue focusing on strategy after 12 years with a promotion to partner. Halle’s experience as creative director at Vermilion has led to being named partner as well.

Morehouse will continue to hold a reduced role at the company, taking on the new title of founder, while also focusing more on philanthropy and fighting climate change.

Exploring & expressing grief

Support groups and events, as well as creative therapies and professional counseling, are all ways in which Pathways supports individuals dealing with grief and loss.

“I plan to keep one foot in the Vermilion door for a while,” Morehouse said.

The agency has called Boulder home for its 42 years in operation. Making the transition from mechanical design tools to advanced software and internet advertising is just one of the challenges Vermilion has faced over the years.

The move from print to digital strategies of communication was rewarding for Morehouse.

“I love the instant feedback,” Morehouse said.

Vermilion is dedicated to working with thoughtful and sustainable brands, and is B Corp certified, he said. The certification showcases businesses that are committed to transparency, accountability and environmental consciousness.

The design agency’s long history in Boulder has led to a company culture focused on social impact and reflecting the community’s values.

“What’s important to me is that the culture and DNA of Vermilion continue on,” Morehouse said.
