SCL Health, Acadia Healthcare plan new behavioral-health hospital

BROOMFIELD — SCL Health, a Broomfield-based health care system, has formed a joint venture with Acadia Healthcare, a Tennessee-based behavioral-health provider, to build a new behavioral-health hospital.

The new freestanding, 144-bed facility will be built in the Denver area and is designed to expand inpatient and outpatient behavioral-health services in the metro area, the companies said in announcing the project. The facility is expected to open in the middle of 2023.

“We are very pleased to partner with Acadia to enhance access to behavioral healthcare for our patients in Denver and the surrounding communities,” Lydia Jumonville, president and CEO of SCL Health, said in a prepared statement. “This new hospital will continue our legacy of compassionate, high-quality behavioral health services. We are committed to meeting the rapidly growing demand for behavioral health services in the communities and chose Acadia as our strategic partner because of their deep knowledge of the industry and of operating inpatient behavioral health services.”

SCL Health West Pines in Wheat Ridge will continue to provide behavioral-health services during the first phase of the joint venture, with a transitional-management agreement in place during planning and construction of the new facility.

SCL Health operates eight hospitals, including Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette and Platte Valley Medical Center in Brighton, along with more than 180 physician clinics, home-health, hospice, mental-health and safety-net services in Colorado, Montana and Wyoming.

Acadia operates 230 behavioral-health facilities with approximately 10,200 beds in 40 states and Puerto Rico. The new facility will be the company’s first in Colorado.
