Vail CEO to donate stock proceeds to COVID-19 relief, social justice programs

BROOMFIELD — Vail Resorts Inc. (NYSE: MTN) CEO Rob Katz will donate about $11.7 million in exercised stock appreciation rights proceeds to organizations combating the COVID-19 pandemic and fighting for social justice and racial equality.

Among the recipients of Katz and wife Elana Amsterdam’s grants, according to a Vail news release, are:

  • Tulane University Medical School 
  • Equal Justice Initiative 
  • Know Your Rights Camp 
  • Various youth organizations

“This is an incredibly challenging time for our country, and while a primary mission of our charitable giving will remain supporting mental and behavioral health and COVID-19 relief efforts in mountain communities, Elana and I feel passionate about supporting efforts that ensure basic human rights, empowerment and health for everyone,” Katz said in a prepared statement. “We are proud to lend our voice and resources to these critical initiatives, movements and organizations that are creating positive change for our society every day.”
