CDOT suspends intercity bus routes

DENVER — The Colorado Department of Transportation has suspended Bustang and Outrider bus services between cities throughout the state. The suspension was effective Sunday in order to reduce intercity travel in light of the COVID-19 virus spread.

The suspension will last until at least April 11, the department said in a press release. It will be reviewed as guidance and gubernatorial orders change.

CDOT urged all travelers to stay at home whenever possible, limiting all travel to what is absolutely critical, as defined under the statewide Stay-At-Home order. Avoiding travel between cities and regions is an important part of limiting the spread of COVID-19 between different communities.

“We must do everything we can right now to limit the spread of COVID-19,” said CDOT executive director Shoshana Lew. “Minimizing travel between communities is one important piece of our fight against this virus, and so we are suspending our intercity bus service.”

The suspension of these intercity services is different from the local transit services that continue to provide essential trips within communities throughout Colorado.
