Kaiser Permanente CEO dies unexpectedly

OAKLAND, California — Bernard J. Tyson, 60, chairman and CEO of Kaiser Permanente, has died.

He died in his sleep early Sunday.

“Bernard was an exceptional colleague, a passionate leader, and an honorable man. We will greatly miss him,” board member Edward Pei, chair of the executive committee, said in a written statement.

Kaiser has operations in eight states, including Colorado, and the District of Columbia. It has 12.3 million members. It has about 3,000 workers in Colorado, including those in offices in Fort Collins, Greeley, Loveland, Brighton, Longmont, Lafayette and Boulder.

The company in late September reached an agreement with its union on a four-year contract that granted increased wages, benefits and security to the workers.
