Election 2019: Gates takes early lead in Greeley mayoral race

These are races BizWest is watching tonight that affect Greeley and the larger Weld County area. Vote totals are as of 7:15 p.m.

Greeley Mayor

John Shull, a retired actor, is the only opponent of incumbent mayor John Gates in the 2019 election. Gates first won the office in 2017 with a whopping 83 percent vote count.

Gates immediately came out with a commanding 80.31 percent lead over Shull in the first batch of polling results.

Weld School District 6, Issue 4C

The school district covering most of Greeley is asking taxpayers to pay as much as $771 million and an extra $24.5 million annually for a sprawling school upgrade package. 4C includes building a new high school to replace the current Greeley West building, replacing Madison Elementary School and building an entirely new elementary school, along with various expansions, security updates and new technical education areas to existing schools.

Most voters so far, 51.7 percent, voted for the proposal, or 10,584 votes, compared with 48.3 percent against, or 9,888 votes.
