Election 2019: Gates reelected as Greeley’s mayor, Weld County school bond still looks to pass

These are races BizWest is watching tonight that affect Greeley and the larger Weld County area. Vote totals are as of 10:30 p.m.

Greeley Mayor

John Shull, a retired actor, is the only opponent of incumbent mayor John Gates in the 2019 election. Gates first won the office in 2017 with a whopping 83 percent vote count.

Gates holds 80.05 percent of the vote, with Shull just under 20 percent. The Greeley Tribune called the race for Gates at 8:35 p.m.

Weld School District 6, Issue 4C

Several Greeley and Weld County schools look poised for expansions, as the county school district’s 4C ballot issue stands with a 52.08 percent majority in favor.

The school district covering most of Greeley is asking taxpayers to pay as much as $771 million and an extra $24.5 million annually for a sprawling school upgrade package. 4C includes building a new high school to replace the current Greeley West building, replacing Madison Elementary School and building an entirely new elementary school, along with various expansions, security updates and new technical education areas to existing schools.
