Greeley construction company to lay off 121 in closure

GREELEY  — Energes Services Inc., a Greeley construction and oil-rig servicing company, is laying off its entire staff and closing amid a lawsuit over unpaid insurance bonds.

The layoffs, which total 121, was reported to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment Wednesday night.

In a letter sent to state officials, Energes described itself as a “faltering company” and couldn’t find an emergency cash infusion since mid-July. Employees will be laid off in four rounds starting this Wednesday and ending Nov. 29.

Energes was sued two weeks ago by an Ohio insurance company that claimed it is dealing with more than $500,000 in claims from Energes’ failure to fulfill its building contracts. The company was fired from a landscaping project in Centerra Metropolitan District #1 two months ago after it said it couldn’t fulfill its duties.

The company did not respond to a request for comment Thursday afternoon.
