Highway 402 to reopen starting Oct. 18

LOVELAND and JOHNSTOWN Colorado Highway 402 at Loveland and Johnstown will begin to reopen to traffic on Oct. 18, three days ahead of schedule.

The 402 interchange has been closed since early summer as crews have worked to realign the highway’s intersection with Interstate 25. Instead of running under I-25, the new Colorado 402 will run over the interstate.

The new interchange smooths out horizontal and vertical curves on I-25 and adds pedestrian and bike facilities on Colorado 402. It will open the afternoon of Oct. 18. At that time, southbound on- and off-ramp traffic will use the recently constructed roundabout on the west side of I-25 on Highway 402.

The new northbound on- and off-ramps will remain closed until the evening of Oct. 22. Traffic will continue to use the northbound I-25 off-ramp onto the southeast frontage road and the northbound I-25 on-ramp at River Ranch Parkway. When traffic is switched to the new northbound I-25 on- and off-ramps, the southeast frontage road, south of 402, will be reopened in both directions using the new roundabout at County Road 18 and the southeast frontage road.

The rebuilt 402 project is part of the I-25 North Express Lanes project that will add capacity on I-25. The overall project is expected to be completed in 2023.
