Virginia private equity firm invests in Boulder Scientific

MEAD — A Virginia-based private equity firm has closed on an investment in Boulder Scientific Co., a specialty chemical company based in Mead.

Charlottesville, Virginia-based Quad-C Management Inc. announced the investment Wednesday. Terms of the investment were not disclosed.

Boulder Scientific produces high-performance organometallic compounds and custom chemical solutions for the plastics, electronics, defense, pharmaceuticals and aerospace industries.

Founder and CEO Scott Birmingham retained “a significant stake” in the company and will continue to oversee operations, according to a press release issued by Quad-C.

“Boulder Scientific has expanded tremendously in the last decade, and we are eager to continue growing through our partnership with Quad-C,” Birmingham said in the prepared statement. “Innovation is fundamental to what we do, and a strong financial partnership will build upon our momentum and enable even greater strides in research, product development, and commercial scale production.”

Boulder Scientific recently began expansion of its manufacturing facility at 4161 Specialty Place in Longmont in Weld County. The company also maintains operations in Mead, Hudson and Milliken, employing about 200 workers.
