Boulder Community, UCHealth open inpatient rehab unit
BROOMFIELD — UCHealth and Boulder Community Health have opened a joint wing for patients requiring inpatient rehabilitation.
The 18-bed unit, which opened Monday, is designed for patients recovering from strokes, spinal-cord injuries, amputations, neurological disorders and other issues that affect everyday mobility and speech. The wing is located on the third floor of the UCHealth Broomfield Hospital at 11820 Destination Drive in Broomfield.
UCHealth and BCH previously announced plans for the wing last August. BCH previously housed its rehab unit in northwest Boulder, but the facility was sold, and the unit had to be vacated, BCH spokesman Richard Sheehan said.

In a statement, BCH chief financial officer Bill Munson said the partnership reduces overhead for both of the groups by sharing one larger unit instead of competing against each other.
UCHealth Broomfield medical director Jaclyn Arends said the partnership allows specialists from each medical group to work with one another, and gives patients in the Boulder region access to intensive rehab services closer to home instead of having to drive to locations in Fort Collins or Aurora.
“They don’t need to travel far from home and their support systems,” she said. “We’re happy to be here to be able to provide it.”
UCHealth is based in Aurora and operates hospitals and clinics in Broomfield, Fort Collins, Longmont, Loveland, Colorado Springs, Steamboat Springs and Woodland Park. Boulder Community Health operates primarily in Boulder and Broomfield counties.
