Greeley MSA ranks as seventh-fastest-growing in country

Greeley remains one of the Top 10 fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country, with growth of 3 percent from July 1, 2017 to July 1, 2018, according to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The Greeley Metropolitan Statistical Area — comprised of Weld County — added 9,031 residents during the period, growing to 314,305 from 305,274 the prior year.

That 3 percent growth ranked the Greeley MSA No. 7 in the country, down from No. 3 last year.

Growth in Greeley was topped by the Midland, Texas, MSA, up 4.3 percent; Myrtle Beach-Conway-North Myrtle Beach, SC-NC, up 3.8 percent; St. George, Utah, up 3.5 percent; Lakeland-Winter Haven, Florida, up 3.2 percent; Odessa, Texas, up 3.2 percent; and The Villages, Florida, up 3.1 percent.

Rounding out the Top 10 were Boise City, Idaho, up 2.9 percent; Bend-Redmond, Oregon, up 2.8 percent; and Provo-Orem, Utah, up 2.6 percent.

Greeley ranked No. 6 nationwide in terms of percentage population growth since the 2010 census, up 24.3 percent from 252,947.

The Fort Collins-Loveland MSA — comprised of Larimer County — added 6,525 people in the most-recent one-year period, growing to 350,518 from 343,993 the prior year. That 1.9 percent growth rate made the MSA the No. 34 fastest-growing in the country.

Growth was slower in the Boulder MSA — comprised of Boulder County — which 2,005 residents, with population growing 0.6 percent, to 326,078 from 324,073 the prior year. That ranked the MSA No. 173 nationwide in terms of percentage growth.

Broomfield County, which is part of the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood MSA, added 1,035 residents, reaching a population of 69,267 from 68,232.

Colorado grew by 1.4 percent from 2017 to 2018, with population reaching 5,695,564 from 5,615,902.
