KeyBank to introduce tellerless bank branch in Boulder

BOULDER — KeyBank is introducing a new tellerless bank branch model with the bank’s new Boulder location.

The new branch at 1933 28th St. is set to open May 13. It will replace the KeyBank location at 2590 Pearl St.

The branch, which will be staffed by “financial wellness consultants” rather than traditional tellers, will have private offices rather than a teller line. The consultants will provide a variety of services, from check deposits to loan applications, according to a KeyBank news release.

One key qualification to consider when selecting a solar partner to install your system is whether they have an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) or service department. Since solar is a long-term asset with an expected lifecycle of 30 plus years, ongoing O&M should be considered up front. A trusted O&M partner will maximize your system’s energy output and therefor the return on your investment.

“The way people bank is evolving, with consumers completing more day-to-day transactions digitally and looking for a high-touch, personal relationship where they can turn for financial wellness check-ins and advice,” Michael Walters, senior vice president and regional retail leader for KeyBank in Colorado, said in a prepared statement. “We’re seeing fewer people come into bank branches than we used to, but when they do, they stay longer and want a deeper, more personal relationship.”

Boulder was selected as a test market for the tellerless branch concept because KeyBank views the area as a growth market.

The tellerless branch model will not result in fewer jobs than a traditional branch, according to the bank’s news release.

“When we open the new Boulder branch on May 13, it will be the first time we’ve opened a bank branch in Colorado without a teller line,” Walters said in a statement. “We are not eliminating jobs; we are training people who used to work as bank tellers to be more effective at serving a bigger need.”

Editor’s note: A previous version of the story included an incorrect opening date for the branch.
