Boulder property where hotel is planned sold

BOULDER — A property on Diagonal Highway in Boulder where a new Kum & Go gas station convenience store was once planned has been sold to a firm with aims of building a hotel on the site.

In a deal that closed in late December, Iowa-based Kum & Go LC sold the roughly 2.3-acre parcel at 3365 Diagonal Highway, formerly the home of a Sinclair gas station, to Boulder Lodging Group LLC for $2.85 million, Boulder County public records show. Boulder Lodging Group LLC is associated with Lamont Cos. Inc., a hotel development, construction and management firm based in Aberdeen, S.D.

BizWest first reported on Lamont’s interest in building a Holiday Inn Express on the site in 2016. However Kum & Go had yet to change hands at that time.

Kum & Go bought the property in 2014 for $2 million. Higher than expected constructed costs prohibited the company from moving forward with plans to build the gas station, a company representative told BizWest in 2016.

Lamont intends to build a three-story hotel with about 150 rooms, planning documents submitted to the city show.

There is an existing Holiday Inn Express in Boulder at 4777 Broadway.
