Colorado’s furloughed federal workers may be eligible for benefits
DENVER — During the partial federal government shutdown, Colorado’s furloughed federal employees may be eligible for unemployment insurance benefits though the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment.
There are 53,200 federal workers in Colorado, but not all of them are affected by the shutdown.
There is a mandatory one-week waiting period before a claim is activated and workers may not file their claim until their last day of work, according to a state news release. Unlike most claimants, the federal workers are “job attached,” which means they will not be required to conduct a job search during their furlough.
