JBS-owned brand recalls 100K pounds of beef

GREELEY — A brand owned by Greeley-headquartered JBS USA, the country’s largest beef processor, is recalling nearly 100,000 pounds of beef due to possible E. coli contamination, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announcement

The bulk ground beef was produced on Oct. 24 by Swift Beef Co., a Hyrum, Utah company.

The recalled beef was shipped in 2,000-pound bulk pallets in wrapped quantities of eight to 10 pounds marked “Blue Ribbon Beef,” according to the FSIS.

The products subject to recall are marked with establishment number “EST. 628” inside the USDA mark of inspection, the FSIS announcement said.

These items were shipped to retail distributors for further processing and food service distributors for institutional use in locations in California, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.

The problem was discovered on Nov. 15 when FSIS visited Swift Beef Company in response to a FSIS ground beef sample that was collected at a further processing establishment and was confirmed positive for E. coli.

FSIS confirmed that Swift Beef Company was the sole source supplier for the ground beef products.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. FSIS recommends that anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
