Three area agencies win $100K grants

FORT COLLINS and BOULDER — Three Boulder and Larimer county agencies have won $100,000 state grants to be used to plan and implement two-generation approaches to help families achieve educational and economic success.

Lt. Gov. Donna Lynne and Reggie Bicha, executive director of the Colorado Department of Human Services, released the names of 10 winning agencies today.

The intent is to address the needs of parents and children together, to break the cycle of intergeneratis to come, according to a description of the grant program.onal poverty. The 10 awardees from across the state will assist families with leaving poverty in this generation and building assets for generation

Boulder Valley and Northern Colorado winners are:

  • Boulder County Department of Housing and Human Services, which will work to match the needs of families living in poverty with the right supports. Every child between zero and five and their immediate caregivers living in low-income households will have the opportunity to be screened and matched to home visitation and family support.
  • The Family Center/La Familia of Larimer County will work with parents and children in housing communities to provide culturally proficient supports such as neighborhood-based behavioral health services, early childhood education, adult education and employment to parents and children.
  • Specialized Alternatives for Families and Youth of Colorado, based at Colorado State University, will address multigenerational poverty and trauma through a family trauma assessment and treatment program.

Other grant winners are the Denver Department of Human Services, the Eagle County Department of Human Services, Family and Intercultural Resource Center in Summit County, Focus Points Family Resource Center in Denver, Joint Initiatives for Youth and Families in El Paso County, the Mesa County Department of Public Health and the Routt County Department of Human Services.
