Macy’s confirms it is considering redevelopment at Boulder store

BOULDER — Macy’s Inc. (NYSE: M) is considering redeveloping its 29th Street store location in Boulder, according to a department store spokesperson.

BizWest reported Friday on the possibility that the store would be closed and transformed into an office space, but Macy’s had yet to confirm any potential changes.

“Macy’s Inc. has been reviewing its real estate portfolio across the country to see if there are opportunities to improve the use of our assets,” Blair Fasbender Rosenberg, Macy’s vice president of corporate communications, said in an email. “As part of that strategy, Macy’s is exploring the possibility of redeveloping its Boulder (store).”

Solar Operations and Maintenance for Commercial Properties

One key qualification to consider when selecting a solar partner to install your system is whether they have an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) or service department. Since solar is a long-term asset with an expected lifecycle of 30 plus years, ongoing O&M should be considered up front. A trusted O&M partner will maximize your system’s energy output and therefor the return on your investment.

Last week BizWest reported the store could be redeveloped into a 150,000-square-foot office space called Boulder29. That report was based on information included in a digital brochure from real estate service firm Cushman & Wakefield Inc. (NYSE: CWK).

Rosenberg’s email did not confirm or dispute any of the reported details of the redevelopment project.

“No decisions have been made at this time, and Macy’s remains delighted to continue serving the Boulder community,” Rosenberg said. “Macy’s previously shared this information with our valued colleagues.”

The redeveloped Boulder29 project could include 150,000 square feet of contiguous class A office space spread over three floors, according to the Cushman & Wakefield brochure. The project could include 570 parking spaces, rooftop decks, collaboration spaces, a courtyard and a fitness center.

Cushman & Wakefield representatives referred questions on the project to Macy’s, as have representatives with Macerich (NYSE: MAC), which manages the Twenty Ninth Street commercial area.

There is no clear timetable for the project and questions about when a decision would be made about the future of the existing store were not immediately answered by Macy’s representatives.

As of Monday afternoon, Macy’s had not yet submitted any development plans or applications tp to the city.
