Wildfires may chase away people who otherwise want to live in the high country, but within a year or two of a fire, demand for housing returns home prices to what they were before a fire.
The High Country News reported on a University of Nevada, Las Vegas, study that showed desire to live in the high country trumps fear of wildfire. And the study suggests that costs of response to wildfires in order to save people and property will likely continue to climb as migration to the wildland-urban interface continues unabated by fires recently experienced.
