Denver’s DaVita to pay $270M settlement

DENVER — As part of a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice, Denver-based DaVita, Inc. will pay $270 million, according to a Denver Post report.

The settlement comes after a subsidiary of DaVita, a dialysis service provider, was accused of providing inaccurate information related to Medicare reimbursements.

That subsidiary, a physician network formerly called HealthCare Partners, was acquired by DaVita in 2012 for $4.42 billion, according to the Post.

“Federal health care programs rely on the accuracy of information submitted by health care providers to ensure that managed care plans receive the appropriate compensation,” Assistant Attorney General Joseph Hunt said in a prepared statement. “We will pursue those who undermine the integrity of the Medicare program and the data it relies upon.”
