Neighbor to Neighbor Witnesses Positive Changes Through BES

Neighbor to Neighbor is pleased to announce that we received the prestigious ENERGY STAR® certification this July for Coachlight Plaza Apartments.  This achievement was made possible through our participation in Fort Collins Utilities’ Building Energy Scoring (BES) pilot program.  Because Coachlight Plaza’s score was above 75, an engineer verified the application and allowed Neighbor to Neighbor to take the next step in applying for the certification.

Neighbor to Neighbor was initially drawn to BES because it provides tools and knowledge for reducing utility costs and energy usage.  Several changes in the last couple of years, including replacing windows and sliding doors, have helped to improve temperature control inside the units. This focus on energy efficiency at Coachlight Plaza led us to believe there is also an opportunity to educate our tenants as they continue their journey toward housing stability.

Neighbor to Neighbor provides housing units serving households below 60 percent of the area median income (AMI).  Having ENERGY STAR information is helpful as tenants make future housing decisions and consider their total housing costs. This information can help everyone make good choices for their budgets. It’s not just about rent or a mortgage but also includes all the factors that go into maintaining a home.

Empowering communities

Rocky Mountain Health Plans (RMHP), part of the UnitedHealthcare family, has pledged its commitment to uplift these communities through substantial investments in organizations addressing the distinct needs of our communities.

Neighbor to Neighbor works on the entire continuum, which includes annually educating over 1,000 individuals working toward homeownership.  We see the power in sharing ENERGY STAR information to be educated and informed in housing-related decisions.

Because of the BES system through Utilities and ENERGY STAR portfolio, Neighbor to Neighbor is able to increase efficiency and reduce monthly energy bills. The changes we’ve made have improved the overall livability of the community. Additionally, as we share this information with tenants, we are helping them make the best housing choices to provide stability in the future.
