Monster Day Greeley is an event designed to celebrate all things monster. The celebration won the 2017 Governor’s Award for Downtown Excellence for Best Event, Festival or Recurring Activity. About 6,000 people attended last year.
Among the events at Monster Day:
- A chance to see Greeley’s famous monster makers from Distortions Unlimited, a Greeley company that specializes in masks, props and scary creations.
- Photo-ops with Distortions’ creatures
- Demonstrations from Makeup & Creative Arts LLC and other professional makeup specialists
- More than 40 costumed monsters roaming the grounds from Anderson Farms
- Face painting from Merry Makers
- Performance from George Grey as “Dead Elvis”
- A costume contest (6 p.m., limited to first 40 entries)
- Clay monster making with the Clay Center of Northern Colorado
- A Flash Mob Monster Dance by Top Notch Dance Studio Dancers
- Vendors and food trucks
- Speed mask painting by Ed Edmunds
- Appearances by the Mountain Muppets of Colorado
- Special monstrous items at downtown businesses
- A free showing of Gremlins 2 at the Kress at 6pm
- Monster crafts at the Colorado Model Railroad Museum
- Fire spinners
- Pimped out Hearses
- Starfleet International (The USS TYR)
- Raffle’s and activities from the Weld Food Bank and High Plains Library District
- Greeley’s famous “Go-Cup” service on Ninth Street with drink specials
Proceeds from the event go to the anti-bullying nonprofit organization “Don’t Be A Monster. ”
