United Way of Weld County distributes more than $83,000

WELD COUNTY — The United Way of Weld County has distributed $83,492 in federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds to human services organizations within the area.

The funding will go to 10 nonprofits that serve areas throughout Weld County: A Woman’s Place, the Carbon Valley Help Center, Catholic Charities, Greeley Transitional House, LaSalle Ministry Alliance, Reach Out Ministries, Salvation Army, Stepping Stones of Windsor, United Way of Weld County’s Housing Navigation Center/Cold Weather Shelter and Weld Food
Bank. The organizations provide Weld County residents with emergency food, overnight shelter, meals and rental assistance.

“The Emergency Food and Shelter Program is an incredible and reliable resource for Weld County families,” Lyle Smith Graybeal, vice president of community impact with United Way of Weld County, said in a prepared statement. “Volunteers determine where the money goes based on community need.”

Exploring & expressing grief

Support groups and events, as well as creative therapies and professional counseling, are all ways in which Pathways supports individuals dealing with grief and loss.

Smith Graybeal added that this year, distributing the funds was particularly difficult, as federal funding decreased from nearly $100,000 in 2017 to less than $84,000 this year. The change is due to the economic conditions formula that determines how much each community gets. It considers unemployment, which is very low in Weld County.

“Nevertheless, housing is expensive in our part of Colorado which makes it difficult for low-wage workers,” Smith Graybeal said. “As such, the volunteers wished they had double the amount of funds available in order to meet all agency requests.”
