Final report on NISP water-storage project released

FORT COLLINS – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will decide Sept. 4 whether or not to extend the comment period on a massive Poudre River water-storage project.
The Coloradoan reports that the The Army Corps released the final environmental impact statement for NISP last week and is scheduled to make a final decision in 2019 on the Northern Integrated Supply Project, or NISP.

NISP would create two new reservoirs by drawing 40,000 acre-feet of water annually from the Poudre River.

Project opponents say NISP would wreck the Poudre through Fort Collins and foil plans for a whitewater park in the city. Project proponent Northern Water argues expansive water storage is essential to meet the water needs of 15 fast-growing communities and water districts in the region.
