Army Corps to start river work in Greeley

GREELEY — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will begin ecosystem restoration and recreational improvements along the Cache la Poudre River through Greeley starting in the next few weeks.

The project, begun several years ago with research and public meetings, resulted in a partnership agreement between the city of Greeley and the Corps in 2016. Wednesday, May 30, the Corps will lay out the first phase of the projects that are planned.

The public open house will be at the Poudre Learning Center, 8313 F. St., from 6 to 8 p.m.

Attendees will learn about planned Army Corps of Engineers ecosystem restoration work that will begin shortly and continue through the fall. During construction, the Poudre River Trail will remain open for public use but the natural areas alongside the trail will close, according to information provided by the city.

Upon completion, these areas will provide improved wildlife habitat and river health, according to natural lands coordinator Karen Scopel. The project will also provide improved access to the natural areas along the corridor, including nature trails and boardwalks through wetland areas.
