Commission denies request for public forum on Extraction oil, gas applications

DENVER – State regulators have denied a request by Boulder County governments that Extraction Oil & Gas hold a public forum on new applications to develop 4,000 acres for oil and gas extraction.

The Times-Call reports that members of the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission agreed that Extraction Oil & Gas would not have to engage in public outreach before a state hearing scheduled for Jan. 29 and 30. The public will be able to speak then.

Extraction, under its subsidiary 8 North, has applied for a state drilling and spacing order on a 1,280-acre area between Arapahoe and Baseline roads in the Lafayette-Erie area. The company also has applied for an order on a 2,720-acre area between Oxford and Quail roads, just south of Longmont along East County Line Road. The company filed increased density applications to drill up to 20 wells in the southern area and up to 32 wells in the northern area, which Boulder County has protested.
