TDS Broadband finalizes deal for K2 Communications

MEAD — Wisconsin-based TDS Broadband Service LLC said Thursday it has closed the deal announced in September to acquire K2 Communications LLC, a broadband company serving portions of Northern Colorado.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

TDS already services Berthoud and Johnstown, and the acquisition of Mead-based K2 Communications adds about 1,200 customers. K2 was started in 2002 and provides broadband, video and voice products.

TDS Broadband, a subsidiary of Chicago-based Telephone and Data Systems Inc. and operated by TDS Telecom, said in a statement that it will begin working to transition customers and start planning for network improvements.

Jim Butman, chief operating officer at TDS Telecom, said design work for improvements has begun and that during the next 12 to 24 months, systems will be updated and networks will be integrated. He said the changes will lead to increased broadband speeds and new video products and services.
