Canadian company completes DigitalGlobe acquisition

WESTMINSTER — Canadian company MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. completed its $2.4 billion acquisition of Westminster-based DigitalGlobe, Thursday, and has rebranded the combined business as Maxar Technologies Ltd.

DigitalGlobe is a satellite and data-technology company that relocated its headquarters from Longmont to Westminster in 2015. The company employed about 25 people in Longmont as of February 2017, according to The Denver Post.

The Denver Business Journal reports that Maxar is seeking a location for human-resources, finance and other shared operation, with the possibility that those jobs will come to Colorado.

Prior to the sale, DigitalGlobe employed 1,733 people worldwide. Maxar employs 6,800 people worldwide, with major operations in Westminster; Silicon Valley; Washington, D.C.; Toronto; Vancouver and Montreal.

The acquisition of DigitalGlobe meant that the combined company is already listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “MDA,” but that symbol will change on both the Toronto and New York exchanges next week to “MAXR.”
