Target.com briefly carried CBD oil
DENVER — For a few hours on Thursday, you could buy your CBD oil at Target.com.
Denver-based CW Hemp, the company that bottles “Charlotte’s Web” cannabidiol-rich oil, announced Thursday morning that its hemp capsules and extracts were available at Target.com, The Cannabist reports.
But by Thursday afternoon, CW Hemp products were no longer found on the retail giant’s website.
A Target spokesperson told The Cannabist that they started carrying CW Hemp products a week ago on Target.com, but decided to remove it after further review.

Although having CBD products at a national retailer like Target would be a win for the industry, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency considers the product illegal. Experts told The Cannabist that the move was bold and even brazen.
“It’s hard to imagine a scenario in which this is legal,” said John Hudak, a Brookings Institution senior fellow who specializes in drug policy issues, told The Cannabist. ““This may be an example of Target, a large corporation, standing up to the federal government and sort of challenging them to push back. Target is not asking for permission here; they may be in a position to ask for forgiveness.”
Target does carry other hemp-based products, however, and experts told The Cannabist that it’s not unexpected to see CBD products at national retailers in the near future.
