Aircraft conversion hangar opens in state

COLORADO SPRINGS – Aerospace firm Sierra Nevada Corp. will hire 200 mechanics by year’s end to modify a variety of military aircraft in an $11 million hangar the company just opened at the Colorado Springs Airport.

According to a report in the Colorado Springs Gazette, the company will use the larger hangar to modify larger aircraft than it could in its existing hangar at the airport and at its other facilities in Centennial. The company completes modifications on structural, avionics, sensors and other components under several Department of Defense contracts to support the Global War on Terror, the newspaper report said.

SNC already employs 80 at a 30,000-square-foot hangar it built in 2015 and will begin now to accept applications for the additional 200 jobs.
